Jonah (as) said once to Gabriel (as): Take me to the one who adores his Maker the most from among the people of the earth.

Gabriel (as) took him to a man whose hands and legs were cut off due to leprosy, and both his vision and hearing had gone, too, yet he kept saying,

‘Lord! You permitted me to enjoy as long as You willed, and You have taken away whatever You will, keeping for me my hope in You, O most Kind, the One Who is the most connected with His servants!’”

Dua for the Fourteenth Day of Ramadhan

O Allah do not let indecision and confusion take hold of me, in this month, nor errors and lapses get the better of me, nor let misfortune and disaster make me its target, through Thy power O He who makes powerful those who willingly submit to Him.

What is the reason for the friendship and love for ‘Ali in people’s hearts? Nobody has yet discovered the secret of this love; that is, no one has been able to formulate it, and say that if it were like this then that would follow, or if it were like that then this would happen. However, it does of course have a secret. There is something in the love which dazzles the one who loves and draws him towards it. This attraction and love are the highest degrees of love. ‘Ali is the one whom people’s hearts adore, whom humanity loves. Why? In what does ‘Ali’s extra-ordinariness lie that it incites love and draws hearts towards itself, that it plays the tune of eternal life and lives for ever? What do all hearts find out about themselves through him, and do not feel him to be dead but find him living?

Certainly the basis for love for him is not his physical body, because his body is not now among us and we have not perceived it with our senses. Love for ‘Ali is also not hero-worship, which exists in every nation. It is a mistake, too, to say the love for `Ali is by way of love for moral and human excellence, and that love for ‘Ali is a humanistic love. It is true that ‘Ali was the manifestation of the perfect man, and it is true that human beings love great figures of humanity; but if ‘Ali had had all that human excellence that he had - that wisdom and knowledge, that self-sacrifice and altruism, that humility and modesty, that courtesy, that kindness and mercy, that protection of the weak, that justness, that liberality and love of freedom, that respect for humanity, that generosity, that bravery, that magnanimity and mercy towards his enemies, and, in the words of Rumi: “In bravery you are the Lion of the Lord, In generosity who indeed knows who you are?”, that munificence, benevolence and beneficence - if ‘Ali had had all these, which he did have, but had not had the divine touch in him, it is quite certain that there would not have been the feeling of sympathy and awakening of love that there is today.

Dua for the Twelfth Day of Ramadhan

O Allah, in this month, beautify me with the trimming and frills of modesty and chastity, let contentment and (self) satisfaction by my daily wear, let me adhere to justice and fairplay in my dealings with (fellow men), and keep me safe from all that which terrify me, through Thy support, O He who gives support to the frightened.

“The body experiences six different states: health, sickness, death, life, sleep and wakefulness, and so does the spirit. Its life is its knowledge and its death ignorance; its sickness is doubt whereas its health is certainty; its sleep is its negligence and its wakefulness is its consciousness.’”

Imam Ali (a.s.)

“We will be on the Heights. We will recognize our supporters from their faces. We are the Heights. Without knowing and recognizing us there is no other way to know Allah, the Most Holy, the Most High. We are the Heights that Allah, the Majestic, the Glorious, on the Day of Judgment will make known to everyone on the bridge. No one will enter paradise without recognizing us and our recognition of them. No one will will enter hell except those who do not recognize us and whom we will ignore.

If Allah, the Most Holy, the Most High, wants to permit people to know Him He may do so but He has made us the doors to knowing Him, the bridge, and the path and the aspect to Him. Whoever deviates from our authority and guardianship or considers others more excellent than us, such people will fall down off the bridge. People are not the same in following guidance.

People who have found the sparking fountains are not equal with those who have gathered around polluted waters that fall over one another. These people are not equal with those who have found the sparkling fountains that flow by the order of the Lord ceaselessly and without reduction.”

Amirul Mo’minin Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (ع) al-Kafi v. 1, p. 148, h. 468

…Ibn al-Kawwa came to Amirul Mo’minin (ع) and asked, “O Amirul Mo’minin, what do you say about: ‘There will be people on the Heights who know everyone by their faces…’”(Quran 7:46)

“Today is the first of Sha’ban, named so by our Lord because of the ramification and branching forth of His blessings during it. To be sure, in it your Lord has flung open the gates of His paradise and presented to you the spectacle of its palaces and good things, attainable at the cheapest of prices, in exchange for the easiest of works, and yet you decline them. The accursed Satan too has presented to you the branches of his multifarious evils and afflictions, and you catch hold of the offshoots sent out by Satan, and turn away from the branches of good, whose gates have been laid open for you.”
